Before you buy
Beef fat on my face?
Suet rendered gently has almost none. Bare Silk is unscented. The other four smell of their botanicals.
A pea-sized amount on damp skin finishes matte. Greasy means you used too much.
Tallow scores low to moderate on comedogenic scales. Patch test if you are blemish-prone.

How to choose your first jar
Start with what your skin is asking for.

How to use a tallow balm
Start with clean, slightly damp skin, straight from the shower or after cleansing. Take a pea-sized amount for the face, a nickel for hands, or a quarter for a whole limb. Warm it between your fingertips until it melts, then massage it in. Use it morning and night as the last step, give it a minute before makeup or clothes, and reapply to hands after washing. A little goes a long way. Used daily on face and body, a 2 oz jar lasts about a month. The full method, including the overnight slugging ritual, is in the Journal.

Is tallow good for sensitive skin?
Tallow's short labels are the point: fewer ingredients means fewer things to react to, and Bare Silk was built for exactly that skin. Our guide to tallow and sensitive skin goes deeper.
Does tallow clog pores?
It scores low-to-moderate on comedogenicity scales and most skin tolerates it well, but individual response varies. Patch test if you are blemish-prone and start with a small amount at night.
