Botanicals are at their best straight out of the vial, which is what blending at your counter gives you. The kit keeps every botanical sealed in amber glass until the minute you blend it.

Five distinct solutions: everyday nourishment, barrier comfort, redness care, premium renewal, and recovery. One kit blends them all, gentle enough for the face and sized for the body too. Plenty of people blend tallow balm at home. This is the version with the doses already measured.

Inside the jar

Five base jars (1.5 oz each) of regeneratively farmed, grass-fed suet tallow with a touch of organic arrowroot. Five amber vials, one for each balm, each holding the complete botanical blend for its recipe (the manuka honey extract rides in the Honey Glow vial). A circle warming plate, a precision pipette, and the recipe deck.
The ritual

1 · Warm. Set a tallow base on the warming plate until it melts, hands-free, like a candle warmer.

2 · Blend. Add your vial, drop by drop with the pipette, following the recipe card.

3 · Store. Stir or whip, cap the jar and put it on the shelf. Your blend sets into a finished balm.

Every recipe card carries its own ingredient list, patch-test guidance and safety notes, including which recipes are suitable in pregnancy and which are essential-oil-free. No stove or equipment needed: the warming plate is included. Made in USA.

Do I need any experience or equipment?

None. The warming plate, pipette, and step-by-step recipe cards are in the box. If you can make tea, you can blend a balm.

How long does it take?

About five minutes a jar, most of it hands-free while the base melts on the warming plate.

Are these the same recipes as your finished balms?

Yes. Every balm we sell began as a kit recipe, and each vial holds the complete botanical blend for its jar, in the same proportions.

How often does the kit renew?

Every 3 months on subscription: fresh bases and a full set of vials at $99 per renewal, with 25% off your first kit. A reminder email goes out before every charge, and you can pause, skip or cancel in your account.

Is it a good gift?

It is the best gift we make: a full skincare line, a small ritual, and something to show for it. The one-time kit at $110 ships gift-ready.

Does the Kit include a tallow face cream recipe?

Yes. Velvet's vial is the face recipe, with its true 1% bakuchiol and 1.5% oil-soluble vitamin C already measured, and Bare Silk's base makes the plain face balm. Each recipe is a dense tallow balm with no water in it, which is what most people mean when they type tallow face cream. The recipe deck walks the blend, and the Formulator's Bench does the grams for your own batches.

Is the Craft Tallow Kit a whipped tallow kit?

No. The five recipes set dense, the way our finished jars are poured, so a jar you blend holds balm and not air. Up to half of a whipped jar can be air. Warm the base on the plate, add the vial, stir and let it set, about five minutes a jar. If you'd rather whip a batch, our recipe post covers the whipped method and what it changes.

Before you buy

Beef fat on my face?

Does it smell like beef?

Suet rendered gently has almost none. Bare Silk is unscented. The other four smell of their botanicals.

Is it greasy?

A pea-sized amount on damp skin finishes matte. Greasy means you used too much.

Will it clog my pores?

Tallow scores low to moderate on comedogenic scales. Patch test if you are blemish-prone.

Is the dose real?

“With bakuchiol” on a label can mean a trace. Velvet’s is a true 1%, stated on the page, twice the dose in the published trial.

This was a fun girls night. We each warmed our tallow jars and mixed in our favorite botanical jar. Next time I think I'll get the botanical boosters to customize mine even more. I liked how simple it was to make these without having to source all the different oils and botanicals and didn't have to render down any suet which takes a long time.
