What a balm actually does

A balm does not add water to your skin. It helps skin hold the water it already has, which is why we say press it into damp skin: you supply the water, the fat keeps it there. Recovery is the densest jar we pour, so it wants the extra minute: massage in slow circles until the golden tone disappears, and the tallow seals the moisture in over the botanicals. 1. Once or twice daily on clean skin (damp after a shower is ideal): massage a pea-sized amount per area in slow circles until the golden tone disappears.

Storage: A warm kitchen can grain the balm. That is the fat, not spoilage. A minute on the warming plate or in the hands brings it back.

Shelf life: Vitamin E and rosemary antioxidant keep the oils fresh. Keep the lid on, out of direct sun, and scoop with clean, dry fingers. Unopened and kept cool, a year is comfortable. Once it is open, use it inside a year. There is no water in the jar, so nothing grows in it as long as you keep it that way: dry fingers, lid on. Over a long time the oils go stale, and your nose catches that first.

Will it smell like beef?

No. Our tallow is 100% suet, rendered low and slow in wet and dry steps by our Montana render partner, and never bleached or deodorized. The base fat arrives pale gold and nearly scentless, closer to unsalted butter than to anything from a grill. In this jar you smell honeyed helichrysum with a nutty edge from tamanu; on skin it is mostly gone within minutes, and tamanu lingers longest. Where tallow smell comes from, jar by jar.

Will it help my scars?

Recovery Balm is cosmetic care for the appearance of scars and stretch marks: helichrysum, rosehip and sea buckthorn are long prized for improving how marks look over time. It is not a treatment, and results build with consistent daily use.

Why is the balm golden?

The color is the sea buckthorn pulp extract, dense with carotenoids. It absorbs clear with a brief massage: the tone is the ingredient, not a dye.

Can I use it after a procedure?

Once the skin is closed and settled. Recovery is for intact skin, so give fresh work its time, then patch-test before the first full application.

Can I use it during pregnancy?

Recovery Balm was formulated with stretch marks as half its job, and helichrysum appears on published lists of essential oils considered suitable in pregnancy. It does contain essential oil. If you would rather skip essential oils entirely, Bare Silk Unscented is the essential-oil-free jar in the line.

Why does Recovery contain tree nuts?

Tamanu is a tree-nut-derived oil and one of the stack's anchors. If tree nuts are a concern in your household, patch-test carefully or choose another jar in the line.

Is Recovery Balm suitable for eczema-prone skin?

Yes: the dense tallow base suits skin that runs dry and reactive, and there is no fragrance beyond the botanicals themselves. It is cosmetic care, not a treatment; patch-test first.

How long until stretch marks look different?

Give it eight to twelve weeks of daily massage before judging: the look of marks changes on skin's timeline, not the jar's. Newer marks typically show change in appearance sooner than older ones, and the massage itself is part of the work.

Can I use it on my face?

How much do I use, and how long does a jar last?

A pea-size amount per area, massaged in slow circles until the golden tone disappears, once or twice a day. Spot work on scars or a few stretch marks stretches a 2 oz jar well past a month; daily use over a whole belly or hips runs closer to a month, which is what the 30-day interval is for.

Will it clog pores or feel greasy?

Suet tallow is low in polyunsaturated fat, about 4%, and it is made of fats your skin already makes for itself, so a pea-size amount pressed into damp skin absorbs rather than sitting on the surface. The usual reason a tallow balm feels greasy is dose: too much, on dry skin. If you are blemish-prone, patch-test and introduce it slowly, as with any rich balm.

Can I use Recovery Balm on a healed tattoo?

Yes, once the ink has settled and your artist has cleared moisturizers. Fresh ink follows your artist's aftercare sheet, not ours. Is Recovery Balm a tallow hand cream for cracked hands and heels?

It's the jar we hand to hard-worked hands and heels: rough knuckles, ragged cuticles, the dry heel that catches on a sock. Press a nickel of balm into hands that are still damp from washing, and at night a thicker layer over damp heels under a cotton sock. It arrived soft, melted or grainy. Is it ruined?

No. Heat changes the texture, not the recipe. Soft or melted: stand the closed jar upright somewhere cool until it firms up (twenty minutes on a fridge shelf speeds it along). Grainy: warm the closed jar in your hands until it goes soft, stir with a clean, dry fingertip or spoon, then chill it for twenty minutes so the whole jar sets together. Why does this jar look or smell a little different from my last one?
