Tallow and your skin

Is tallow good for sensitive skin?

Yes, unusually so: its fatty acids closely resemble your skin's own, so it absorbs like something the body recognizes. Bare Silk goes further by stripping the formula to five quiet ingredients with no fragrance or essential oils in the Unscented original. Patch-test first, as with anything new.

Will tallow clog pores or feel greasy?

Suet tallow is nearly zero PUFA and absorbs cleanly rather than sitting on the surface, and organic arrowroot in our recipes lends a powder-soft matte finish. If you are blemish-prone, patch-test and introduce it slowly.

What does grass-fed and grass-finished mean?

The cattle are raised on pasture their whole lives, not started on grass and finished on grain. The suet from regeneratively farmed, grass-finished cattle is then slow-rendered at low heat.

Why is there no water in your formulas?

Waterless by design: with zero water there is nothing for microbes to grow in, so the formulas need zero synthetic preservatives, and every gram in the jar is active lipids and botanicals rather than filler.

Can I slug with a tallow balm?

Yes, it is slugging without the petrolatum. Applied over damp skin as the last evening step, the tallow seals moisture in overnight, and skin still breathes because the seal is lipids, not wax or jelly.

Is this the skin longevity thing?

Yes. Skin longevity is the line's throughline: daily care in service of skin that looks resilient over time, rather than a miracle-week promise. The renewal jars carry it furthest, but every recipe is built for the long game.

What is bakuchiol, and why use it instead of retinol?

Bakuchiol is a plant-derived active that performed comparably to retinol on the look of fine lines and tone in a published head-to-head study, with less dryness reported and no added sun sensitivity. Velvet Face Renewal carries a true 1% in the finished balm.

Which jar should I start with?

Are the balms scented?

Only by their botanicals. Bare Silk Unscented has no scent at all; the others carry the quiet, honest aroma of their ingredients (lavender, honey, blue tansy, frankincense or rose, immortelle) that fades as the balm absorbs. Nothing is perfumed.

How long does a 2 oz jar last?

Used daily on the face, most people get well over a month; face and body use runs closer to a month, which is why balm subscriptions renew every 30, 45 or 60 days, your pick.

Are your balms suitable during pregnancy or for babies?

Bare Silk Unscented is the jar we point to during pregnancy and nursing and for baby skin: no essential oils, no fragrance, no common allergens. Velvet and Recovery are retinoid-free, and both carry botanical aromatics, so check with your provider before starting either. Patch test first, and every product page lists its full ingredients and safety notes.

Is there a jar for eczema-prone skin?

Bare Silk Unscented and Recovery Balm are the two we point to for eczema-prone, reactive skin. They are cosmetic care, not a treatment, and your provider leads on any diagnosed condition.

The kit

Do I need experience or equipment to use the kit?

None. The warming plate, pipette, and step-by-step recipe cards are in the box. If you can make tea, you can blend a balm.

How long does blending take?

About five minutes a jar, most of it hands-free while the tallow base melts on the warming plate.

Are the kit recipes the same as the finished balms?

Yes. Every balm we sell began as a kit recipe, and each amber vial holds the complete botanical blend for its jar, in the same proportions.

Kit or Flight: which should I buy?

Single-recipe vials for kit owners: one Booster holds the complete botanical blend for one full 2 oz jar of your favorite recipe, so you can blend it again without waiting on the quarterly box.

How do subscriptions work?

Your first delivery is 25% off and every renewal is 10% off. Balms renew every 30, 45 or 60 days, your pick. Kits and sets renew every 3 months. Subscriptions always ship free, and a subscription of three or more balm jars gets a full 2 oz Bare Silk Unscented free in its first delivery. Pause, skip or cancel any time from your account.

Can I pause, skip, or cancel?
