What a balm actually does

A balm does not add water to your skin. It helps skin hold the water it already has, which is why we say press it into damp skin: you supply the water, the fat keeps it there. Tallow's fatty acids are mostly oleic, palmitic and stearic, the same three in your skin's own surface lipids, so it sinks in like something the body recognizes. The limit: tallow carries no humectant of its own, so on bone-dry skin, damp application is not optional.

The feel

Dense and honeyed in the jar, it melts on contact into a rich glide, then settles dewy with a soft matte-velvet edge from the arrowroot. The scent is quiet: warm and faintly honeyed, gone within minutes.

Grass-Fed Suet Tallow	Melts at skin temperature and sinks in, easing tightness on contact · and it is the delivery vehicle: honey, oat and calendula all arrive riding in it.

1. After cleansing or a shower, while skin is still a little damp, warm a pea-sized amount between your fingertips and press it from the center of the face outward, then down the neck.
2. In dry months keep going: hands, knuckles, elbows, anywhere the season bites. Reapply to hands after washing.
3. At night, a slightly thicker layer over damp skin as your last step works as an overnight seal that absorbs by morning.

Storage: A warm kitchen can grain the balm. That is the fat, not spoilage. A minute on the warming plate or in the hands brings it back.

Shelf life: Vitamin E and rosemary antioxidant keep the oils fresh. Keep the lid on, out of direct sun, and scoop with clean, dry fingers. Unopened and kept cool, a year is comfortable. Once it is open, use it inside a year. There is no water in the jar, so nothing spoils; the oils simply lose their edge.

Will it smell like beef?

No. Our tallow is 100% suet, rendered low and slow in wet and dry steps by our Montana render partner, and never bleached or deodorized. The base fat arrives pale gold and nearly scentless, closer to unsalted butter than to anything from a grill. In this jar you smell warm honey with a cereal note from the oat oil; on skin after a minute, a faint honey sweetness. The Vanilla edition adds a warm, creamy-balsamic depth, never bakery-sweet. How much do I use, and how long does a jar last?

A pea-size amount, warmed between fingertips until it turns to a film and pressed into damp skin, covers the whole face; the driest areas get it first. Used daily on face and body, a 2 oz jar runs about a month, which is why the 30-day interval exists. Face-only use stretches it well past that, and the 45 and 60-day intervals are there for exactly that.

Is there real manuka honey in this?

Yes: a manuka honey extract, carried in an oil-soluble form so real honey can live evenly in an oil-based balm.

Will honey make it sticky?

No. The extract folds through the balm rather than sitting on top, so you get honey's richness with a dewy, non-tacky finish.

Can I use it on my face and my hands?

Yes. It is a face-first recipe that doubles beautifully on hands, cuticles, and anywhere winter bites.

What is squalane, and why sugarcane?

Squalane is a mirror of a lipid your skin makes on its own, so it absorbs instantly with zero weight or shine. Ours is derived from sugarcane and is shelf-stable by nature.

Is Honey Glow good for dull skin?

Yes: dull-looking skin is usually thirsty skin, and Honey Glow feeds it. Manuka honey and squalane pull moisture in while oat oil restocks barrier lipids, and the finish reads dewy and lit rather than greasy: the glass-skin look, fed not painted.

Can I slug with Honey Glow?

Yes: it works as a slugging-style final layer without petrolatum. Applied over damp skin as your last evening step, the tallow seals moisture in overnight, and skin still breathes because the seal is lipids, not wax or jelly.

How far does a jar go compared to lotion?

Further than you expect. There is no water in the jar to pad the volume, so every gram is balm, and a pea-sized amount covers the whole face. Most people find a 2 oz jar outlasts a much larger bottle of lotion.

Will it clog pores?

It is built not to feel occlusive: grass-fed tallow is nearly zero PUFA and absorbs cleanly, squalane is weightless, and arrowroot lends a matte finish. If you are blemish-prone, patch-test and introduce it slowly, as with any rich balm.

It arrived soft, melted or grainy. Is it ruined?

No. Heat only changes the texture; there is nothing in the jar to spoil. Soft or melted: stand the closed jar upright somewhere cool until it firms up (twenty minutes on a fridge shelf speeds it along). Grainy: warm the closed jar in your hands until it goes soft, stir with a clean, dry fingertip or spoon, then chill it for twenty minutes so the whole jar sets together. It may set a shade firmer than it left us; the recipe is unchanged. What is normal in a jar of balm, and what is not.

Why does this jar look or smell a little different from my last one?

Because the botanicals are real. Blue tansy, rosehip, calendula and helichrysum shift with the harvest, so color and scent move a little between batches. The recipe and the doses do not. What is normal in a jar of balm, and what is not.
