Small-batch tallow balms compared: nine brands, read off their live pages

We haven't tested these nine small-batch tallow balms against ours in a lab, and every fact about them here was read on October 6, 2026, off each brand's own live page. Five of the nine lead with honey, and the four brands that printed a jar size ran from $4.88 to $10.62 an ounce.

Craft Tallow is mine, so weigh this page with that in mind. Our comparable row is Bare Silk ($34), five ingredients in a 2 oz (56 g) jar with no water, priced the same day. It's one row of ten, listed alphabetically with the rest.

It's the second half of a pair: part one, nine more tallow balms compared, covered the first nine brands. Our best tallow balm roundup and the tallow balm comparison page sit beside both.

How do the nine small-batch tallow balms line up?

Here's each brand's flagship jar as its page read on October 6, 2026, priced as a one-time order for a single jar. Five pages didn't print a size I could find, so those rows carry the price alone.

Terra Lotus Organic Tallow Honey Balm, 2 oz $20 or 4 oz $34.99 $10.00 or $8.75 Grass-fed beef tallow, raw honey, beeswax, olive oil (named in a sentence) Four scents, says no water

Two prices were sales that day. Lasso's $39.99 was marked down from $79.99, and Frandora's $19.99 from $29.99. The Cow Guys landing page showed only family bundles, so its $38.95 for one jar comes from its product page. Bare Silk's $17.00 is the highest per-ounce figure here, and it's priced by weight.

What do the nine have in common?

Honey's the pattern this time, and five of the nine lead with it in the jar's name: Frandora, Grazly, Harvest & Herd, Lasso and Terra Lotus. Grazly and Harvest & Herd list raw manuka honey. Lasso puts manuka in its product name, and its FAQ lists organic honey from New Zealand. Frandora names raw wild honey. Four of the five honey jars list beeswax too, and Harvest & Herd adds royal jelly. Whether honey earns its place in a balm is a separate question, and tallow and honey balm: does it work takes it on.

Tallow comes first on every list I could read. Six of the nine pages name suet, the dense fat from around the kidneys: Cow Guys, Grazly, Harvest & Herd, Lasso, Pure Good and Terra Lotus. Seven pages name their ingredients, and none of those lists includes water. Frandora and Holy Cow didn't print a full list I could find, and Terra Lotus says "No water" outright among the promises on its page. No water means no preservative system, which is why we leave it out of ours.

Where do they differ on texture and scent?

Texture splits the field, and two of the nine call their jars whipped: Holy Cow in its jar's name, and Frandora with "whipped tallow body cream" in its description. Four set their jars apart from whipped. Lasso leaves its balm "unwhipped to preserve its rich, concentrated texture," and Cow Guys calls its balm "an unwhipped concentrate" on its landing page. Grazly says its jar isn't whipped and feels heavier than its other balms. Pure Good sells the same two ingredients both ways, with the balm labeled "Rich & concentrated" beside a lighter, fluffier whipped jar. The other three pages don't say either way. Bare Silk is poured dense and sold by weight, 56 g to the jar.

Scent splits them as well. Four brands sell an unscented jar beside scented ones: Cow Guys, Holy Cow, Lasso and Terra Lotus. Holy Cow leans on vanilla in three of its four choices. Lasso's scented jars add frankincense or lavender, and Cow Guys' Original carries an essential oil blend. Pure Good's jar is unscented and free of essential oils. Belano lists fragrances and essential oils among what's not inside, and Grazly's list carries no essential oil. Harvest & Herd's jar comes in one scent, and its page says it "smells like fresh oranges," from a list with six essential oils in it. Unscented and fragrance-free aren't the same label, and fragrance-free vs unscented sorts out the difference.

Where do they differ on sourcing and price?

Pure Good's suet is "sourced from small American farms," and Holy Cow says the same of its ingredients. Lasso's tallow comes "from Wisconsin family farms." Grazly's tallow comes from "regenerative farms in the USA," and Belano's cows are raised on "small, regenerative farms." Cow Guys writes, "We source the highest-quality suet." Harvest & Herd's line is "Suet, not scraps," and Terra Lotus names "grass-fed, grass-finished suet," the fat around the kidneys. Frandora calls its tallow organic and grass-fed, and so does Lasso. Harvest & Herd says it's GMP certified, and Terra Lotus says its balm is third-party tested and verified.

Of the four brands that printed a size, the per-ounce cost runs from Pure Good's $4.88 for its 8 oz jar up to Belano's $10.62. Lasso and Terra Lotus sit between them. The five rows without a size run from Frandora's $19.99 to Cow Guys' $38.95, and a sticker price can't tell you how much balm is in the jar. Tallow balm sizes and how long a jar lasts turns a size into weeks.

Who does each jar suit?

Pure Good suits a reader who wants the shortest list and the lowest per-ounce price I could compute, with no scent. Lasso fits a reader after an unwhipped honey jar. Grazly suits a reader who wants a short honey list with coconut oil as an option, and its Buy 2 Get 1 Free bundle brings three jars to $70. Terra Lotus suits a reader who wants two sizes and four scents. Lasso and Terra Lotus each offer a 30-day money-back guarantee, and I didn't find return terms on the Pure Good or Grazly product pages.

Belano writes its page for parents of babies and toddlers. It suits a reader who wants no fragrance and no essential oils, with 90 days to ask for a full refund. Holy Cow suits a reader who wants whipped, with vanilla in three of four scents. Its guarantee runs 180 days, with free returns. Cow Guys puts suet first in an unwhipped jar, and its landing page promises a full refund if you don't love it. Frandora suits a reader shopping on sticker price, with 30-day returns. Harvest & Herd suits a reader who likes citrus, and its page says "Love it or your money back."

Bare Silk Unscented suits a reader who'd like suet and four named ingredients in a dense jar sold by weight, backed by our 60-Day Skin Test: sixty days with any jar, and if your skin disagrees, we refund it.

What would we ask any small-batch brand?

Four questions settle most of a label, and how to read a tallow label walks through each one. The first is which fat, suet or trim. We source 100% suet, the dense fat from around the kidneys, from grass-fed and grass-finished cattle on Montana family ranches, bought direct. We buy the fat. We do not run the ranch. Suet, not trim explains why it's the only cut we buy.

The second is water. If water or aqua is on a list, a preservative system has to be in the jar too, and it should be named. The third is size, and it's clearest by weight. Fluid ounces and milliliters measure the space in a jar, while grams and ounces of weight measure the balm itself. Up to half of a whipped jar can be air. Ours is poured dense, and the balm unit converter does the math when a page mixes units.

The fourth is dose. Wherever a jar names an active, it's fair to ask what percent it carries and which study set it. Belano's list names bisabolol and zinc PCA beside the tallow. When a brand prints a percent, the actives dose checker shows whether it sits inside what the trials used. The research set our doses.

If you came for the honey, ours is Honey Glow ($42), with an oil-soluble manuka honey extract that stays in the fat. It's cosmetic care, not a treatment, and your provider's plan comes first.

Start with Bare Silk ($34), five ingredients and sixty days to disagree.

Questions we hear

Which of these small-batch tallow balms costs the least per ounce, and which costs the most?

Pure Good came out lowest when we read the pages on October 6, 2026. Its 8 oz Pure Tallow Balm was $39, about $4.88 an ounce, and Belano's 3.53 oz jar was the highest I could compute, at $10.62. Five of the nine pages didn't print a size I could find.

Is Lasso tallow balm whipped?

No, Lasso's page, read October 6, 2026, says its balm's left unwhipped to keep a rich, concentrated texture. The 4 oz jar was $39.99 that day, marked down from $79.99. The FAQ lists organic grass-fed and finished beef tallow, organic honey, organic beeswax and vitamin E, and the scented jars add frankincense or lavender.

Which of these tallow balms have honey in them?

Five of the nine we read on October 6, 2026 lead with honey: Frandora, Grazly, Harvest & Herd, Lasso and Terra Lotus. Grazly and Harvest & Herd list raw manuka honey, and Lasso puts manuka in its product name. Belano, Cow Guys, Holy Cow and Pure Good don't list it. Craft's Bare Silk has no honey, and our honey jar, Honey Glow, uses an oil-soluble manuka honey extract.

Is this a review of these tallow brands?

It's a side-by-side read of nine brands' live pages, taken on October 6, 2026, with Craft as one row among them. We haven't tested their balms against ours in a lab. Every price and ingredient list came from each brand's own page that day, and prices can change after it. It's each brand's word on its own jar.
