Craft Tallow vs Tallow Twins: same fat, different promise

We haven't tested Tallow Twins balms against ours in a lab, and every fact about them here came off their live pages on October 5, 2026. Both brands start from grass-fed beef tallow. Tallow Twins sells a head-to-toe line handmade in Ontario, Canada, and we sell five no-water balms with one job each, plus a kit.

If you're looking at their best-selling For the Face, the closest Craft jar is Bare Silk ($34), five ingredients with grass-fed suet tallow first. Our prices in this post are from the same day.

What does each brand sell?

Tallow Twins is run by twin sisters in Southern Ontario, and their FAQ says every product is handmade at their headquarters in small batches. On October 5, 2026, their shop ran from face creams and lip balms to body butters and a deodorant. There's also Sun Milk, a tallow lotion with non-nano zinc oxide. Their journal's first two pages lean toward wellness and lifestyle, with posts on cortisol, progesterone, sleep and burnout.

We make five balms with one job each. Bare Silk is the everyday jar, and Honey Glow ($42) is for dry skin. Moonlight Calm ($69) covers redness-prone skin in the evening, while Velvet Face Renewal ($89) takes on the look of fine lines and tone. Recovery Balm ($74) is for the look of scars and stretch marks. Beside them sits the Craft Tallow Kit ($110, on pre-order with about a three-week ship window): five base jars of suet and five vials, so you blend all five recipes yourself. We don't make a sun product, since tallow doesn't screen UV.

How do the jars compare?

Their jars are sized in milliliters and priced in Canadian dollars, as their store listed them on October 5, 2026. Ours are sold by weight in US dollars. I've worked their prices out per fluid ounce and left the currency alone, so read that row as close, never exact.

On October 5, 2026, For the Face listed grass-fed tallow, organic jojoba oil, organic carrot seed oil, organic infused calendula oil and organic chamomile and frankincense essential oils. Happy Baby drops the carrot seed and the frankincense. Bare Silk Unscented is grass-fed suet tallow, meadowfoam seed oil, organic jojoba oil, vitamin E and organic arrowroot. Happy Baby has the lowest per-ounce number in the table, and on both jars, the 240 ml size is the one that's cheapest per ounce.

The texture words aren't the same, either. On October 5, 2026, their For the Face page called it "light enough for daytime use" and said it "absorbs beautifully without feeling greasy." Our words for Bare Silk are dense and poured. A pea of it warms between two fingertips in three seconds.

What does Tallow Twins do well?

Two things stand out on their pages. They render their own grass-fed tallow in-house, and their Meet the Twins page says it comes from a small family farm 20 minutes from where their skincare is made. The same people render the fat and pour the jars. That's a short supply chain, and they lay it out in plain words on one page.

Their sun language is plain, too. Sun Milk carries non-nano zinc oxide, and its page said it's "not a certified sunscreen" and makes no SPF claims. It's a clear line, and it tells a buyer what the jar is for. If we ever made a jar with zinc in it, I'd want that exact sentence on the label, word for word.

Where do we differ?

The first difference is which cut of fat goes in the jar. We buy 100% suet, the dense fat from around the kidneys, from grass-fed and grass-finished cattle on Montana family ranches, bought direct, and our Montana render partner renders it. We buy the fat. We do not run the ranch. Our post on suet vs trim explains why we're particular about the cut.

The second is dosing, and the research set ours. Velvet Face Renewal carries a true 1% bakuchiol, twice the 0.5% in the published head-to-head trial against retinol, plus 1.5% oil-soluble vitamin C (tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate). Our post on bakuchiol vs retinol covers that trial. The Kit is a third difference, since it hands you the whole line and you're the one who blends it.

The guarantee is the fourth. Our 60-Day Skin Test gives you sixty days with any jar, and if your skin disagrees, we refund it. Their refund policy, read October 5, 2026, takes no returns for hygiene reasons and says that within 30 days "we may be able to give you a partial refund," and there's nothing to ship back.

Who should buy which?

If you're in Canada, or you'd like the family that renders the fat to make the whole jar, Tallow Twins is the place to start. For the Face is their daily face jar, and their page calls Happy Baby their most neutral product. Bare Silk is the third jar to weigh. It suits a reader who wants no essential oils and sixty days to decide. For a baby, their pick is Happy Baby, with chamomile essential oil, and ours is Bare Silk Unscented, with no essential oils at all. It's cosmetic care, not a treatment. Your provider's plan comes first. For the look of fine lines, it's Velvet Face Renewal ($89).

If you'd rather not read five product pages, Find my balm asks two minutes of questions and hands you the jar.

Questions we hear

Is this a Tallow Twins review?

It's a side-by-side read of their live pages and ours, taken on October 5, 2026. We haven't tested their balms against ours in a lab. What you'll find here is what each brand says about its own jars: ingredients, sizes, prices, shipping and guarantees, with dates. For how their jars feel on skin, their product pages carry customer reviews.

Does Tallow Twins ship to the US?

When I read their product pages on October 5, 2026, a footer line offered free North American shipping on orders of $85 or more, and their store showed prices in Canadian dollars. You'll see the final cost for your address at their checkout. Craft ships from Cottonwood Heights, Utah, free in the US over $35, and subscribers always ship free.

What's the closest Craft jar to Tallow Twins For the Face?

Bare Silk ($34) is the closest. Both are daily face jars built on grass-fed tallow with jojoba oil. One clear difference is scent. On October 5, 2026, For the Face listed chamomile and frankincense essential oils, and Bare Silk Unscented has no essential oils or fragrance at all. Bare Silk is sold by weight, 2 oz to the jar, and you'll have sixty days to decide.

How do the two guarantees compare?

Tallow Twins' refund policy, read October 5, 2026, takes no returns for hygiene reasons. It says that if you write within 30 days of receiving your order, they may be able to give a partial refund, and there's nothing to send back. Craft's 60-Day Skin Test gives you sixty days with any jar, and if your skin disagrees, we refund it.
