We haven't tested Lady May's tallow against our balms in a lab, and every fact about them here came off their live pages on October 8, 2026. Lady May is a tallow company in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, with a whipped moisturizer that comes unscented or scented. We pour five balms dense and sell them by weight.
If you're holding their Unscented Whipped Tallow Moisturizer, the closest Craft jar is Bare Silk ($34). Both start from suet and skip essential oils. The texture is where they part, since theirs is whipped soft and ours is poured dense.
Who is Lady May, and what do they sell?
Their story page says it began with one question, "Could you whip that tallow into something for my skin?" The answer's still in the jar. The site calls the line handcrafted in Mississippi. Their whipped moisturizer runs from a 2oz jar to an 85oz bulk refill. Past the moisturizer, they sell a coffee-infused tallow eye cream and a manuka honey and rosehip body butter. There are tallow candles too, and bulk tallow for makers.
We keep a shorter shelf. Bare Silk is the everyday jar, and Honey Glow ($42) is for dry skin, with oil-soluble manuka honey extract. Moonlight Calm ($69) is the evening jar for redness-prone skin. Velvet Face Renewal ($89) goes after the look of fine lines and tone, and Recovery Balm ($74) is for the look of scars and stretch marks. There's also the Craft Tallow Kit ($110, on pre-order with about a three-week ship window), for people who'd blend their own.

The Unscented lists one ingredient, "100% Pure Beef Tallow," with "Nothing else" after it. Bare Silk Unscented has five on its label: grass-fed suet tallow, meadowfoam seed oil, organic jojoba oil, vitamin E, organic arrowroot. There's no water in either. Their page says wet rendering leaves the tallow odorless, and the suet we start from is nearly scentless, so Bare Silk Unscented smells like nothing.
What does an oz hold in a whipped jar?
Each size on their page is a plain oz, with no grams and no fl. The federal labeling rule for cosmetics, 21 CFR 701.13, uses the ounce for weight and the fluid ounce for volume. Our bench page read their oz as weight for its per-gram math. That's a reading. A scale is the check, and our bench will weigh a jar of theirs for part two.
Whipping changes the jar even when the unit is weight. It folds air into set fat, and the air takes up room without adding grams. Up to half of a whipped jar can be air. We start where whipped ends up, with the fat poured dense, so our 2 oz is 56 g of balm in a small jar. By weight, an ounce of whipped tallow is still an ounce of tallow. It's just spread through more of the jar. If you whip your own at home, whipped tallow 101 walks through the method.
What does Lady May do well?
Their pages show two strengths, and the first is the sizes. On October 8, 2026, the 24oz Unscented was $45, and the 85oz bulk refill was $115. That's a lot of plain tallow for the money. Their Unscented page also showed 9,695 reviews that day, 9,349 of them five stars, with a note that some come from related products.
The second is how they ship in summer. Their shipping policy says summer orders go out Monday to Thursday, packed in thermal-lined packaging with ice packs where they're needed. One of ours once melted in an August mailbox. That's why I notice when a brand plans for the heat before the box leaves. It's care you can't see in a product photo.
Where do we differ?
Let's start with sourcing, where their product page is plain about theirs. It calls the fat suet from U.S.-raised cattle, and it says all their tallow is wet rendered. We source 100% suet, the dense fat from around the kidneys, from grass-fed and grass-finished cattle on Montana family ranches, bought direct. We buy the fat. We do not run the ranch. Our Montana render partner renders it, and the balms are blended in small batches in the Mountain West.
Range comes second. Their whipped moisturizer is sorted by scent: Vanilla and Eucalyptus Tea Tree sit beside the Unscented. Ours are sorted by job. Bare Silk's the plain one, and in the other four jars, the research set the doses. Both are fair ways to build a shelf.
Third is the guarantee: their product page carries a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee and says to message them if you don't love it. Their refund policy sets a 30-day return window for unused items in their original packaging. Ours is the 60-Day Skin Test, which gives you sixty days with any jar and a refund if your skin disagrees. Their product page offers free shipping over $75. We ship free in the US from $35, and anyone on a subscription always ships free.
Which jar should you buy?
Buy theirs if you love a light, whipped texture their page says absorbs fast. If your family goes through a lot of tallow, the 24oz or the 85oz refill makes the most sense on price. If you'd like a scent, their Vanilla or Eucalyptus Tea Tree is the place to look. Bare Silk is the third jar to weigh. It's the one for a reader who'd rather have a dense balm with the grams on the label. For dry skin that wants more than a plain fat, our Honey Glow ($42) carries oil-soluble manuka honey extract and cold-pressed oat oil. It's cosmetic care, not a treatment. Your provider's plan comes first.
Start with Bare Silk ($34), five ingredients and sixty days to disagree.
Questions we hear
Is Lady May good?
Plenty of their buyers think so: on October 8, 2026, the Unscented page showed 9,695 reviews, some pooled from related products, with 9,349 at five stars. We haven't lab-tested their tallow against ours, so I can't grade it for you. The jar lists one ingredient, beef tallow, whipped soft. If a one-line label and a light texture suit you, it's a fair jar to try.
Is Lady May whipped tallow worth it?
On price per printed ounce, the big jars are where you'll find the value. On October 8, 2026, the 24oz Unscented was $45, about $1.88 an ounce as printed, against $17.00 for Bare Silk by weight. The 2oz jar, closer to ours in size, was $25 and sold out. Their page prints no grams, so our bench will weigh a jar before we compare by the gram.
Lady May vs Craft Tallow, which is better for the face?
We haven't tested either jar on faces side by side, so I'll tell you how we'd choose. A light, whipped feel may suit some faces better. Bare Silk ($34) is the jar I'd put on a face every day: it's dense, with no essential oils in the Unscented. For the look of fine lines, Velvet Face Renewal ($89) is the face jar we built. Let your skin decide.
How much tallow is in a Lady May 2oz jar by weight?
Their page prints 2oz, without grams or a fluid marking, and our bench page read that oz as weight. Only a scale settles it. Their 2oz was sold out on October 8, 2026, so part two of tallow balms bought and weighed will weigh whichever size reaches us. I won't print a measured number for their jar until the scale's done its job.
Does Lady May use essential oils?
Their Unscented doesn't, and on October 8, 2026, its page listed "100% Pure Beef Tallow" and nothing else. Their Eucalyptus Tea Tree jar does. It lists eucalyptus and tea tree essential oils after the beef tallow. Bare Silk Unscented carries no essential oils or fragrance, and our scented jars smell like the botanical on the label.
