We haven't tested FATCO's balms against ours in a lab, and every fact about them here came off their live pages on October 5, 2026. FATCO sells a whole-body catalog built around tallow, while we sell five no-water balms and a kit. We both start from suet.
If you're weighing their Myrrhaculous Face Cream against ours, the closest Craft jar is Bare Silk ($34), five ingredients with grass-fed suet tallow first. Our prices are from the same day. Their Baby Butta sits in the table too, since it's the nearest thing they make to our Unscented original.
What does FATCO sell?
On October 5, 2026, FATCO's shop menu ran across body, baby, face, deodorant, hair and gift sets, plus T-shirts and other merchandise. Their Stank Stop deodorant comes as a cream or a stick, with an underarm spray beside it. There's a hair oil beside the shampoo and conditioner bars. The baby shelf holds Baby Butta and an unscented Baby Fat Stick, and the face menu adds pregnancy editions of the face oil and cream.
Their blog is still active, with recent posts on tallow for the face, oil cleansing, shampoo bars and deodorant.
We make five balms and the Craft Tallow Kit ($110, on pre-order with about a three-week ship window), which measures out the five recipes for readers who'd rather blend their own. We don't make a deodorant or a shampoo. An underarm's trouble is sweat and the bacteria living on it, while a balm's job is dryness. Our post on why we don't make a deodorant walks through the underarm side.
How do the face jars compare?
Here's how the jars line up, as their pages read on October 5, 2026. Their sizes are listed in ounces and ours are sold by weight, so read the per-ounce row as close, never exact.
| Read Oct 5, 2026 | Myrrhaculous Face Cream (FATCO) | Baby Butta (FATCO) | Bare Silk Unscented (Craft) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fat listed first | Tallow from grass-fed cows | Tallow from grass-fed cows | Grass-fed suet tallow |
| Ingredients | 15 | 7 | 5 |
| Carrier oils and butters | 11 | 5 | 2 |
| Beeswax | Yes | Yes | No |
| Essential oils | Lavender, myrrh | None | None |
| Water listed | None | None | None |
| Price for 2 oz | $52 | $16 | $34 |
| Per ounce | $26 | $8 | $17 |
| Subscription | 15% off every order | 15% off every order | 25% off the first, 10% off renewals |
The face cream lists tallow from grass-fed cows first, then coconut oil and shea butter, with nine more carrier oils after them. Baby Butta's list keeps the beeswax but drops the essential oils, so it stops at seven ingredients. Bare Silk Unscented is grass-fed suet tallow, meadowfoam seed oil, organic jojoba oil, vitamin E and organic arrowroot, and that's the whole list.
Their texture words aren't ours. The face cream page describes a "rich, comforting feel" on dry skin and says "It absorbs the way nothing else does." Baby Butta's page says "a thin layer is plenty." We'd call Bare Silk dense and poured.
Scent splits the same way. Their face cream page says the myrrh "contributes to the scent," and lavender sits beside it. Baby Butta is "completely unscented," its page says. Bare Silk Unscented smells like nothing, because the suet's nearly scentless, and the Lavender edition smells of lavender until the balm settles in. If the labels confuse you, fragrance-free vs unscented sorts them out.
What does FATCO do well?
The first is a plain jar that's easy on the budget. Baby Butta was $16 for 2 oz on October 5, 2026, or $8 an ounce, under half of ours. Their subscription takes 15% off every order. Ours takes 25% off the first delivery and 10% off each renewal after it, so over a year of renewals, theirs is the deeper discount.
The second is a face shelf built around oil cleansing. Their cleansing oils come in three versions by skin type, and a first-timer's page walks through the method in six steps. Their FAQ opens with two questions about the adjustment period. We don't make a cleanser. If oil cleansing is already your ritual, they've built more of it than we have, and our post on oil cleansing, then tallow covers the balm that follows it.
Where do we differ?
Both of us name the same cut of beef fat. FATCO's home page says its tallow comes from "the kidney fat (or, suet)" of grass-fed, pasture-raised cows. We source 100% suet, the dense fat from around the kidneys, from grass-fed and grass-finished cattle on Montana family ranches, bought direct. We buy the fat. We do not run the ranch. Our post on suet, not trim explains why we're particular about it.
The bigger difference sits beside the suet. Their face cream adds 11 carrier oils and butters plus beeswax, while Bare Silk adds two oils with vitamin E and arrowroot. Each is a recipe choice, and neither list is a verdict on the other. None of our five balms carries beeswax, coconut oil, shea or cocoa butter, since suet's enough to set the jar. The research set our doses, too, and Velvet Face Renewal ($89) shows it, with a true 1% bakuchiol, twice the 0.5% in the published head-to-head trial against retinol. Our post on bakuchiol vs retinol covers that trial.
Then there's the guarantee. Our 60-Day Skin Test gives you sixty days with any jar, and if your skin disagrees, we refund it. Their returns page offers 30 days, for store credit. The buyer pays the return shipping on theirs, and their ground shipping in the US is free on orders over $50. Ours ships free from $35, and subscribers always ship free.
Who should buy which?
If you want one brand for the whole bathroom shelf, from an oil cleanse to a shampoo bar, FATCO has built that and we haven't. For a plain jar at the lowest price per ounce, Baby Butta is hard to beat. Bare Silk is the third jar to weigh. It suits a reader who wants suet and four other ingredients, with no beeswax in the jar and sixty days to decide. For pregnancy and baby skin, we'd point you to Bare Silk Unscented, with no essential oils at all. It's the jar our baby got first. For the look of fine lines, the jar is Velvet Face Renewal ($89), morning and night. It's cosmetic care, not a treatment. Your provider's plan comes first.
Start with Bare Silk ($34), five ingredients and sixty days to disagree.
Questions we hear
Where is FATCO made?
FATCO's home page and FAQ both say its products are handmade at a small privately owned facility in Austin, Texas, as I read them on October 5, 2026. Their tallow comes from the kidney fat of grass-fed, pasture-raised cows, according to the same home page. Craft balms are blended in small batches in the Mountain West. Then every order's checked and shipped from Cottonwood Heights, Utah, with free US shipping from $35.
Is this a FATCO review?
It's a side-by-side read of FATCO's live pages and ours, taken on October 5, 2026. We haven't tested their balms against ours in a lab. What you'll find is what each brand says about its own jars, from ingredient lists to return terms, with a date on every fact that can change.
Does FATCO make an unscented tallow balm?
Yes. Baby Butta's page, read October 5, 2026, calls it completely unscented, with no essential oils or synthetic fragrance. Its seven ingredients include coconut oil and beeswax, and there's no water. A 2 oz jar was $16 that day, while Bare Silk Unscented is $34 for 2 oz by weight, with five ingredients and no essential oils or fragrance.
Is FATCO cheaper than Craft Tallow?
It depends on which jar you're holding, at October 5, 2026 prices. FATCO's Baby Butta was $8 an ounce in the 2 oz jar, under half of Bare Silk's $17 an ounce. Their Myrrhaculous Face Cream was $26 an ounce. Their subscription takes 15% off every order, while ours takes 25% off the first delivery and 10% off each renewal.
